I get the sense that Mr. Marlene is like Hutch’s final boss form of gayness. Like if you get through regular Hutch (already very gay), then mustachioed Hutch (coverboy for a gay magazine), at the end the fruitiest little blonde twink you’ve ever seen beats the everloving shit out of you.

Seriously though I mean when Starsky goes gay he goes sort of ambiguously european with it. When Hutch goes gay he goes Gay. Like that queen knows what the fuck she’s talking about.

Anyway I’m convinced all the unnecessary scenes of flirtation with female customers was to make up for the fact that Mr. Marlene and Tyrone are just the final stage of Starsky and Hutch gay evolution and the audiences at home would start to catch on. Love that when Hutch got a chance to sing on stage, nervous and all, Starsky was SO supportive he was clapping and singing a long (so much it drove Hutch crazy, lmao), but when Starsky got a girlfriend/fling/lover interest (who upon meeting Starsky thought he was gay) he fell asleep on her singing and was surprisingly completely disinterested in her musical aspirations (despite her having a lovely voice). Wild stuff.
